Reclining Chair

In the house where I grew up, there was one chair that reclined. We weren't allowed to sit on the chair for fear of breaking the sophisticated artifact. Come to think of it, we weren't allowed to sit on the sofa as well for a similar reason. Maybe that's why I tend to just sit on the floor.

I spoke with a gentleman from Danish stereomaker Bang & Olufsen today. We spoke about the topic of simplicity which is on the minds of many indeed. He described the B&O philosophy as one focused primarily not on the quality of sound, but on the quality of "leaning back" ... and enjoying something. I gathered that this philosophy was correlated to the rich tradition of Danish furniture makers, and I found this approach fresh and relevant indeed.

We tend to live and die on the computer by the torture of "point and click" ... instead of just "leaning back." Perhaps we can't reach for the mouse in a reclined position? I know of a variety of furniture that has been designed for us to recline and use the computer. Strangely I don't have any in my home or office. E-bay here I come ...
