Mako has just announced that he has been elected to the board of the Free Software Foundation. The FSF oversees the GNU project (at the heart of the GNU/Linux operating systems), the GNU GPL, is active in campaigns against DRM, and much more.

1-Bit Groove Workshoppe at Leaf Crew Party

On Saturday evening, June 15th, 2007, CCG member Shifty a.k.a. Noah Vawter will teach a workshoppe on one-bit groovebox construction in Allston, MA. The workshop is part of the "Skill Share" segment of a massive party by the Leaf Crew. The party begins with a yard sale, then the Skill Share segment, then a dance party with 14 DJs on three floors! Shifty joins his buddy Andrew Hylynsky from Berklee School of Music who will be teaching a circuit-bending workshop at the party.

Mako On The Move

Mako is off to Europe where he'll visit three conferences to deliver talks:

• The iCommons iSummit (essentially, the Creative Commons conference). Mako will be talking about philosophy of free culture movement and continuing his pitch for a set of goals for free culture and the Definition of Free Cultural Works. The conference wil be in Dubrovnik, Croatia between 14-18 June and Mako will be giving a talk on 16 June.
• Mako will be at DebConf 7, this years instance of the annual Debian Conference. He'll be giving a an overview of academic work on Debian on 21 June and facilitating a round-table discussion among Debian derivatives. The conference is in Edinburgh between 18-23 June.
• For 26-28 June, Mako will be a guest of Eric von Hippel in Copenhagen for a small meeting/workshop of people interested in and working on issues around von Hippel's idea of user innovation.
