    less screen in the forest

images on your portable monitor as you walk in the wild- will they distract from experiencing a wild place? maybe not, if you're resting on a rock, wondering what kind of clouds those are. how about navigating by a compass-driven topo map on the monitor with icons to hint where media lies?

brendan and i wondered how to make the map? when we realized we didn't want it. monitors and screen interfaces draw you into their worlds. not the richest place to be when you have the alternative of full-body interaction in 'real life'. but maybe this world is enhanced by relevant media landing occasionally on your otherwise black screen, like a ladybird.

if there aren't visual icons to select, how do you indicate what kind of media you've captured or seek? a hand-held dial set to 'cloudy day shots'? text entry to find the bird your buddy shot last week near that cedar? or should all this media delivery be serendipity? what is the line between offering media choices and distracting from the non-digital world?

what shows up when i write in this field?
