    so i heard this story...

today, ali and i were talking about how stories are passed on from person to person and generation to generation. how we use them to explain ourselves to others and indeed, to ourselves. this evening, i came across two delightful sites that explore this "pass it on" endeavor:

others people's stories is a website where "every story is a story a contributor heard from someone else. These stories have been overheard and misheard, told and re-told and sometimes refined over time. They do not shy from hearsay, gossip, myth or guys we knew in high school. OPS is dedicated to the time-honored tradition of stealing other people’s material and we therefore recognize our debt to those from whom we’ve stolen and acknowledge that these stories do not belong to us". do check it out!

the other site details snippets of conversation overheard on the london underground. maybe these story fragments could serve to inspire our movie creating? paul mentioned this in group meeting on tuesday - i think there is plenty fodder here to fire out imaginations.

    Eight-Treasure Rice Pudding

Ingredients:
1 c glutinous rice
1/4 c sweet red bean paste
10 lotus seeds 5 red dates
10 peanuts
10 white raisins
5 walnuts
10 brown raisins
1/4 c candied orange peel
2 tbsp shortening
3 tbsp sugar
1/2 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tbsp cold water

Procedure

Clean and wash rice; cook until done. Set aside. Chop walnuts, raisins, and candied orange peel. Make a paste with cornstarch and cold water and set aside.

Grease the bottom of 4 bowls. Divide all ingredients except rice and sweet red bean paste among the bowls. Divide rice and bean paste into 4 portions. Place 2/3 of each portion of rice in a bowl to cover the nuts and fruits, then put sweet red bean paste in the center. Cover the bean paste with remaining rice; flatten it.

Steam at least 2 hours. Unmold on serving platter. Boil sugar in 1 cup water. Thicken with cornstarch paste. Pour syrup on pudding.

Serve immediately.

    DANGER! DANGER!

dangerbike01.jpg dangerbike02.jpg
making movies on your bike is fun and particularly thrilling at night time, while passing the phone back and forth between two cyclists. i think the beauty of these movies is in the making process, and maybe not the final product! the first movie draws attention to the danger of two cyclists using their phones while calmly riding down main street. one who is shooting footage over her shoulder while cycling and another(the movie subject) who is chatting to a buddy while cycling.
